About the Program
The Engineering Program’s mission and vision are founded upon and compliment the mission and vision of Methodist University. Echoing the University’s mission, the Engineering Program is dedicated to having a positive impact across the University by creating a program that emphasizes learning the technical and critical thinking aspects of engineering, as well as how studying the liberal arts and humanities enhances the understanding of engineering’s impact on society. The Engineering Program diversifies the degrees offered at Methodist while strengthening current programs by recruiting high-caliber students that will be encouraged to work on multi-disciplinary projects, take upper-level courses outside of engineering, gain experience through service-learning activities and/or internships, and participate in one of the four pathways in the MU Journey (Leadership Development, Community Engagement, Global Education, and Research and Creativity). In turn, the Engineering Program creates opportunities for students outside of engineering to collaborate with engineering students on research projects, senior capstone projects, and within the classroom.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Engineering Program is to be a world-class engineering program that embraces diversity and prepares students to be well-rounded individuals who consider others in their designs as well as the impact their decisions have on society. Therefore, the program will: (1) Provide a comprehensive curriculum that integrates engineering and the liberal arts. (2) Create hands-on experiences in and out of the classroom. (3) Produce engineers who are ready to work on multi-disciplinary teams, communicate effectively with others, and solve complex technical problems.
Vision Statement
The Methodist University Engineering Program will be a nationally and internationally recognized engineering program in the development of diverse and critically-thinking engineers that practice compassion and ethical responsibility. Through their practice, our graduates will “Engage. Enrich. Empower” the lives and communities they serve.
