During a recent ceremony at the Alumni Dining Room on the Methodist University campus, the Fayetteville Rotary Club presented the six students with the William P. Lowdermilk Student Achievement Awards – an annual tradition that started in 1995 to honor the late Dr. Lowdermilk for his long and honorable service to the Fayetteville Rotary Club and Methodist University.
Lowdermilk joined MU in 1963 and held several staff roles at the University for 35 years, including as a member of the Board of Trustees.
“For 30 years, the generosity of Dr. Lowdermilk has resulted in the recognition of more than 200 Methodist University students and the award of more than $650,000 in cash and tuition credits,” said Dave Baggett ’00M, Fayetteville Rotary Club Lowdermilk Student Achievement Awards Selection Committee chair. “Dr. Lowdermilk has an amazing legacy of generosity and is a model for the impact each of us can make after we’re gone.”
The six students selected for the awards were nominated by the Methodist University community and had to meet various criteria that included practicing objectives of the Fayetteville Rotary Club in their daily life, completing at least 63 credits, at least a 2.0 grade point average, exemplary community service, demonstration of high ethical standards and spiritual values, and becoming familiar with the contributions of Dr. Lowdermilk.
The following students were recognized and received a combined $6,000 in checks and another $25,000 in tuition credits:
- Samuel Andrae (Junior, Business Management with a minor in Sport Management)
- Emanuelle Cain (Junior, Exercise & Sport Science)
- Tyler Dawson (Junior, Business Management with a minor in Sport Management)
- Mustafa Mansaf (Junior, Healthcare Biology)
- Dorvie Onfoula (Junior, Business Administration)
- Tucker Samuelian (Junior, Business Administration and Political Science)
“Receiving the Lowdermilk Student Achievement Award is a profound honor that fills me with immense pride and gratitude,” said Onfoula, an international student from Congo. “It stands as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion that I’ve invested in my academic and extracurricular pursuits. This recognition not only celebrates past achievements but inspires my continued commitment to ‘service above self’ within the MU community and beyond.”
