The Cumberland County community came out in full force last year for the Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo, and an even bigger crowd is expected this year as Methodist University hosts the event on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.

The Cape Fear Valley Foundation’s Step Up 4 Health event features a 4K, one-mile race, and a variety of family-friendly activities – raising donations for Cape Fear Valley Health Friends of Cancer Center, Children’s Services, the Community Alternatives Program, Cumberland County Medication Access Program and Heart Care.

The races will be held throughout MU’s campus and the University’s Duggins Soccer Stadium will be home to the Wellness Expo, which includes informational booths, food trucks, music and sponsor tables. Participants can even learn about hands-only CPR, receive free wellness checks and grab goodies.

“Methodist University is pleased to continue its strong partnership with the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation and ‘step up’ for an even larger role for this wonderful community event,” said MU President Stanley T. Wearden. “MU is a perfect location for the Expo, as the community will be able to visit our newly renovated soccer stadium and 600-plus acre, beautifully landscaped campus along the banks of the Cape Fear River.”

Through March 15, the early-bird registration fee to run or walk in the main event is $25 for adults, $20 for children under 12 and free for children three and under. All registered participants will receive a t-shirt. Participants are able to register as individuals or teams, allowing MU students, staff, faculty, alumni, or any other group to work together. The Wellness Expo is free to attend and no registration is required.

“Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation is excited to bring the Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo to Methodist University’s campus this year,” said Vice President of the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Sabrina Brooks. “Because of Methodist University’s strong educational programs focused on the health sciences, the partnership is a natural fit for our walk and Wellness Expo.”

Last year’s Step Up 4 Health and Wellness Expo welcomed hundreds of participants (and 60-plus vendors) to Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville, setting the stage for an impressive community event on MU’s campus in April.
