The Methodist University Theatre Department is setting the stage once again for three student-directed plays. The plays, which are set to be recorded April 15 to 18 and released on video at a date yet to be determined, include “Swagger” by Eric Coble; “Blind Date” by Horton Foote; and “Suppressed Desires” by Susan Glaspell.
“We’re happy to be creating again,” said Dr. Evan Bridenstine, professor of Theatre.
The students were challenged to direct the plays using social distancing protocols. Each play is unique, touching on a wide variety of subjects.
“Swagger,” which will be directed by Caroline Novak ’25, is a story told from three different perspectives and guides the audience through their stories about a viral video of a violent incident at a local store. For more information on “Swagger,” contact Novak at [email protected].
In “Blind Date,” directed by Joshua Dimmick ’25, families set up a blind date for their kids, who don’t want to be there. For more information about “Blind Date,” contact Dimmick at [email protected].
Lastly, in “Suppressed Desires,” directed by Michaela Kroll ’21, a married couple navigate their marriage and their newfound suppressed desires while one of the in-laws shares a dream that could tear the couple apart. For more information about “Suppressed Desires,” contact Kroll at [email protected].
Auditions are open for each of the plays and will be held in R123 in the Reeves Fine Arts Complex. Social distancing protocols will be followed, and masks are required at all times. Prepared materials are welcome, but everyone will read from the script for the play they are auditioning for.
