MU people at the MLK Brunch

Methodist University once again served as an event sponsor as hundreds braved the cold on Monday to attend the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Brunch at Crown Expo Center.

With nearly two dozen MU students, faculty, and staff in attendance, the Cumberland County Ministerial Council hosted the event that featured public officials, singing, a drum line, artwork, prayer, and more to honor the prominent leader who played a crucial role in the fight against racial segregation and discrimination in the United States.

“It is an honor to attend such a prestigious and blessed event,” said Aneesa Irizarry ’25. “Methodist University continues to provide its students with special opportunities and I am proud to be part of this event. Celebrating and honoring MLK is incredibly important to me, for he set the tone of youth like me. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity and will continue to share my efforts to advocate for diversity and inclusion.”

Methodist University was ranked the most diverse university in North Carolina in 2021-22 and 22-23, and participation in this event is one of the many opportunities MU highlights throughout the year to encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion. MU also has a dedicated Student Belonging & Inclusion team and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office.

“Coming from a very diverse school it is very important to be included into these program because it will help shape our mind on how we think and it will help with our critical thinking,” said Antoinette Botchway ’26. “This program has also taught me how to give to others.”
