More than three dozen students from Methodist University’s Class of 2023 Doctor of Physical Therapy Program are now one step closer to achieving their dream of working professionally in the health care field.
During a traditional White Coat Ceremony at MU’s Huff Concert Hall on Saturday, faculty and staff donned 37 students with a traditional white coat marking the important transition from educator-to-student learning to more in-depth clinical experiences.
“I want to congratulate our Doctor of Physical Therapy students on this critical moment, as they move toward becoming a practicing health care professional,” said Dr. Stanley T. Wearden, President at Methodist University. “I am very proud of their accomplishments as well as the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and its dedicated leadership, faculty, and staff. It is one of the jewels in the crown at Methodist University, a university that is becoming rapidly known for its array of excellent health care programs.”
Physical Therapy students are required to complete coursework for two years followed by a year of full-time clinical practice prior to receiving their doctorate.
“The significance of the white coat has never been more prevalent than today – as a symbol of hope and our ethical obligation to serve society,” said Dr. Gina Maria Musolino, Program Director at the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. “We truly look forward to seeing how each student will make a difference in their patients’ lives.”
The Doctor of Physical Therapy program at MU started in August 2013 and welcomed its first cohort of students in the fall of 2015.
