The emergence of technology – especially with the rise of data, artificial intelligence, and social media – has created a completely different world of marketing. Fortunately, Methodist University’s Marketing program is not only preparing students for careers, but it’s placing them in a position to excel as future marketing leaders.

Take senior Cole Hart for example. When he started at Methodist University, he knew he was interested in studying business; however, he wasn’t quite sure what area he wanted to specifically focus on.

“After taking a few Marketing classes, I really started getting into data collection, analytics, and how we can use data to further a marketing campaign and influence people’s decisions for purchasing products,” said the Fayetteville native, who plans on graduating this May with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing with a minor in Business Administration.

Hart quickly found his niche, and in turn, he was able to develop his marketing skills, learning more about consumer behavior, marketing technologies, and other important up-and-coming theories.

His growth also came through a work study position with the University’s Marketing program last spring – an opportunity he enjoyed so much that he signed up for it again this fall. It allowed him to gain hands-on experience by helping local businesses implement marketing strategies.

“I was able to work with Fascinate-U Children’s Museum by completing surveys that would help them make various decisions from how to organize their layout, new activities to include, and what customers like or dislike,” Hart added. “Ultimately, we learned more about how the consumer sees the business, which allows the businesses to appease to them and provide a better experience.”

Preparing for Jobs of Today & Tomorrow

Methodist University offers the Marketing program on campus and online with an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or minor available. For those majoring in the program, students can also find concentrations in Health Care Administration, PGA Golf Management, Professional Tennis Management, and Sport Management.

One of the best parts of the program is its ability to prepare students for marketing jobs of today and tomorrow.

“We recently modernized our curriculum so that students can get experiential learning along with traditional classroom learning,” said Samantha Inczauskis, assistant professor of Marketing. “The classes we teach are very much in line with modern marketing practices. Students earn valuable certifications in several classes that prepare them for a career in marketing and build their resume.”

Students have access to a variety of interesting core and elective classes, including Marketing Technologies, Social Media, Content Marketing, Customer Relationship Management, E-Commerce, Marketing Research, Marketing Analytics, Advertising and Promotion, Professional Selling, and many others.

Better yet, the classes are taught by professors with robust marketing experience outside of the classroom. Dr. J-D Knode, associate professor of Marketing, brings many years of experience as a business owner and consultant, while Inczauskis comes from a background of corporate marketing, overseeing marketing for several firms.

“We bring that experience to the conversation in the classroom so that we’re not just teaching from a textbook the whole time. We’re also staying on top of the latest trends so we can bring that to the classroom as well,” said Inczauskis.

Flexibility of Online

As marketing evolves so does the program itself. While many students opt for the on-campus program, there are many students who choose an online bachelor’s degree in Marketing. The beauty of MU’s online programs is they are taught by the same professors that teach in the classroom – ensuring you receive the same quality of education.

Whether an interested student is in the military, a working full-time parent, or anything in between, the online option is flexible and affordable.

“We’re covering the same content and leveraging the same technology as our on-campus programs,” Inczuaskis said. “Our online program is a valuable option for anyone who may have earned a degree in another field, but realized their career has taken them to the path of marketing. This is a great way to earn a degree in Marketing so you can expand your career.”

Ready to Succeed

As Hart prepares for a career in marketing research and analytics, he believes MU’s Marketing program has put him in a position to succeed once he graduates.

“Methodist University has small classroom sizes, which means you really get a chance to know your professors,” said Hart. “The personalized aspect of the school will definitely help me get further along in my career compared to a traditional, large-sized campus.”
