Methodist University will be a select world site for the premiere of the film, “The Man Who Saved the World,” on September 24, 2015, as part of the film’s International Screening Week.
The film will begin at 7 p.m. in Huff Concert Hall on the campus of Methodist University. Following the film, Dr. Ben Hancock and Center for Global Education director Dr. Cristina Francescon will facilitate a panel discussion with faculty and other subject matter experts. Admission is free and open to the public.
The film is part of the Center for Global Education’s 12th annual international film festival, and will be the second of four films this semester. Other selections this semester include “Timbuktu,” “Il Postino,” and “El apartamento espanol.” For more information on the festival, visit methodist.edu/foreign-films.
About the film
On September 26, 1983, Soviet Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov saved the world, but to this day, hardly anyone knows. “The Man Who Saved the World” tells the story of Petrov’s heroic Cold War act and the sacrifice that cost him everything. It’s the story of a man who didn’t listen to the noise; instead he listened to his heart at the most critical moment and, by doing so, saved every single person alive on this planet today. The film also follows his trip to America, nearly 30 years later, where he was honored for his actions.
Directed by Peter Anthony, the movie is part documentary and part dramatization, narrated by actor Kevin Costner. Costner also appears in the film, along with broadcaster Walter Cronkite, and actors Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, and Ashton Kutcher.
