Methodist University announces that Dr. Scott Robertson, professor of biology, will present “The Biology of Monogamy” during the 23rd annual B.F. Stone Endowed Lyceum Thursday, March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Medical Lecture Hall in the Physician Assistant complex. The event is free and open to the public.
Every spring, a scholarly project from Methodist University’s faculty is chosen to be presented at the Lyceum, a special lecture event. The B.F. Stone Lyceum consists of a lecture, two responses, and a question-and-answer period. Its mission is to foster scholarly interaction among faculty, students, and the community.
Dr. Matt Dobra, associate professor of financial economics, and Dr. Kevin Hoffman, assistant professor of philosophy and religion will present this year’s response.
The B.F. Stone Endowed Lyceum was created to foster scholarly interaction among faculty, students, and the larger community.
In this talk, Robertson will detail what we know to be the driving factors behind romantic love and attachment and provide evidence that reproductive strategy is highly plastic in individual mammals.
“Moreover, I will show that individuals change their reproductive strategy based on the resource landscape in which they exist,” he said. “Taken together, my data provides empirical evidence that resources drive monogamous behavior in mammals.”
