Methodist University has a strong tradition of excellence in a wide range of areas. From academics to athletics to career preparedness to community service, MU values the vision of its founders and continues to plan for a successful future. An example of this long-standing commitment is the annual MU Loyalty Day, where history, loyalty, and strategy come together to impact students and the University’s future.
Loyalty Day – which is scheduled Feb. 27 this year with the theme Power in Giving, Pride in Legacy – has been a treasured tradition at MU since before MU opened its doors in 1960, symbolizing the strength and unity of our community. It’s a day when alumni, friends, and supporters come together to make a profound impact by contributing to the University’s Loyalty Fund.
This fund directly supports scholarships for 97% of MU’s undergraduate students, giving them the resources they need to excel academically, athletically, and personally.
“Loyalty Day is more than a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of our shared values and our commitment to building a brighter future for Methodist University and its students,” said Mitch Guy of Southern Trust Mortgage in Fayetteville, who serves as president of the MU’s Founders Council. “Together, we can empower the next generation of leaders and innovators in our community. I encourage everyone to show our Power in Giving, Pride in Legacy on this special day.”
The MU Founders Council is made up of approximately 30 business leaders in the area who aid, foster, and promote the growth, progress and general welfare of MU, Cumberland County, and North Carolina. It stems from a tradition of local support that began when the University was founded by the community in 1956.
“Loyalty Day at Methodist University celebrates the impact of generosity,” said Adam Collier, a manager with Home2Suites and member of the Founders Council. “As we embrace the theme Power in Giving, Pride in Legacy, we remember that giving is not just about making a donation, it is about making a difference.”
This year, MU is pursuing minimum gifts of $19.56 in honor of the year in which the University was founded. The contribution will support scholarships, faculty development, and initiatives that enhance the Methodist University experience. Although donors can support the Loyalty Fund all year, the generosity of the MU and local community on Loyalty Day helps to ensure that MU continues to attract and educate students who will go on to make meaningful contributions to our community and beyond.
“MU Loyalty Day is a one-day, 24-hour opportunity for the MU and local community to unite in giving to the causes they are passionate about,” said Jessica Lopez, MU’s Director of Annual Giving. “From scholarships to programs, all gifts will help ensure a brighter future for the University. Let’s come together and ignite the Power in Giving, Pride in Legacy on February 27, 2025!”
Loyalty Day begins at Midnight and ends at 11:59 p.m. on the 27th and donations can be made at donate.methodist.edu/loyalty.
“You can help amplify the impact by using the Ambassador Toolkit and sharing your support on social media with #MULoyaltyDay. Post, email, and encourage friends to join in and give,” said Lopez. “Together, we can make an extraordinary difference — one day, one community, one vision!”
