Counseling Services

Welcome to Methodist University Counseling Services!

We are pleased that you are considering counseling. Life as a college student presents unique challenges. While at Methodist, you will undoubtedly go through times of transition, change and growth. While your main emphasis is on academics and learning, it is only natural to encounter challenges from time to time. You may experience common illnesses like anxiety and depression as well as difficulty coping with stress, adapting to change, forming relationships, and balancing work, play, and rest.

Your counseling with us will focus on working toward goals that you set for yourself. We will listen to you and help you to define your own goals. Together, we will develop a plan and use evidenced-based strategies that will help you move forward and meet the goals you set for yourself. Periodically, we will pause and assess our progress and our plan.

Remember, anything that is a problem to you is an appropriate topic to bring to a counseling session. Our goal is to provide you with the necessary tools to improve your overall well-being that will help you in being successful at Methodist University and beyond!

We are here and ready to help!

Sincerely,

Mark Gronski, MSW, LCSW

About In-Person Counseling Services

Our team of counselors are trained professionals who are licensed by the State of North Carolina. We are committed to providing evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help you meet your therapy goals. At the first appointment, your counselor will obtain a history and conduct screening measures to accurately assess your issues and needs. Then, together with this assessment, your counselor and you will work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan by the second session and begin the process of working toward meeting your goals. Our emphasis is on providing brief individual therapy to build effective coping strategies to improve your overall functioning and well-being. Through the use of evidenced-based therapeutic approaches, this can generally be achieved within a few months. However, the Counseling Services team is equipped to support you should you need longer term treatment.
