NC Independent Tuition Exchange
In an effort to improve the fringe benefits available to their employees, several North Carolina independent colleges and universities have combined to create the North Carolina Private College Tuition Exchange Program. This Program entitles certified dependents of college employees to attend school tuition-free at any of the participating colleges and universities. Dependents will be certified using the same criteria used to define tuition-free status at the “home” institution. MU will accept up to 10 students in the National and North Carolina Independent TE combined.
The procedure for taking advantage of this Program is quite simple:
- Employee dependents apply to their chosen institutions in the normal manner. (This Program will have no bearing on the admissions acceptance decisions of participating colleges and universities.) In the course of their applications, employee dependents apply for all “normal’ financial aid.
- Once formal application is made, the dependent and/or employee will inform the President’s office at the “home” institution. That office will inform the President’s office at the “host” institution that a certified dependent has applied for admission. The ‘‘host’’ President will, in turn, inform his or her Business Office and, if accepted, the dependent’s bill will be prepared accordingly. (This Program covers tuition only; not fees, room or board.)
Employees whose dependents participate in the Program should consult their personal accountants concerning any possible tax liabilities that may result from participation in the Program. Since nearly all of the participating schools have placed a limit on the number of dependents they will accept, applicants should be prepared with a second or third choice.
