The Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development Office exists to support the development of our faculty members and to provide resources and guidance to assure their academic success. As an institution, we strive to promote a diverse, respectful environment where our colleagues can excel in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research. To this end, our Office oversees programs and activities directed at all ranks of our faculty, including clinical and academic track faculty.

Mission & Vision of the Office

The mission of the Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development Office is to provide support to all our faculty, particularly in the areas of career advancement, faculty development, professional satisfaction, faculty mentoring and faculty diversity and inclusion.

We will do this by:

  • Facilitating the recruitment, retention and advancement of qualified, talented and diverse faculty, and departmental and School of Medicine leaders.
  • Supporting the work of the Appointment and Promotions Committee and maintaining the appointment, promotions and guidelines.
  • Supporting the development and membership of College of Medicine institutional committees.
  • Working closely with The Governance Committee of the Faculty Assembly and the Faculty Assembly on matters related to faculty.
  • Developing appropriate faculty development programs, workshops, seminars that support the development of faculty.
  • Providing faculty mentoring programs.
  • Providing new faculty orientation sessions and faculty networking opportunities.
  • Providing one-to-one consultations relating to the career advancement of current and new faculty.

We envision a vibrant, diverse community where faculty members at all stages have optimal capability to reach their career goals and contribute meaningfully to the school’s mission.

Appointment & Promotion

The primary mission of the Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development Office is to support the development of our faculty members and to provide resources to ensure their development and academic success. We are deeply committed to assisting our faculty navigate the ins and outs of what it means to be a faculty member, including how to prepare for the appointments and academic promotion. While all faculty members are responsible for their career success, it is expected that their Chair, Division Head, and another specifically designated senior faculty member will mentor them toward promotion.
