Overall winners in fiction and poetry will receive $100. The first and
second place winners in each grade and each category will receive $50
(first place) and a selected book on writing (second place) respectively.
Each school having a first place winner will receive $100 for its English
Department to use for creative writing program materials or enhancement.
Deadline: February 17, 2014
Short story manuscripts of up to 4,000 words should be typed and double-spaced.
Authors may submit one work of fiction and one poetry entry to the contest. However, submission of more entries per author will not be accepted and will disqualify the author from the contest.
Entry must not have been previously published in any form or have earned previous recognition. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
All entries must be submitted via http://southernwriters.submittable.com/submit. Directions on the site should be followed. Winners will be announced on the Web site and notified by e-mail.
