About MU’s Relationship to the UMC

About Our Relationship to the United Methodist Church

Dr. Stanley T. Wearden, PresidentMethodist University is proud of its longstanding relationship with The United Methodist Church. We share a rich history that includes loving God with mind, body, and spirit, and loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. While Methodist University values its affiliation with The United Methodist Church, the Church does not set the policies of the University.

I concur with the 92 other presidents of United Methodist-affiliated colleges and universities in the United States who unanimously and strongly affirm access and inclusion of all students, faculty, and staff regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, creed, or national origin.

Methodist University has always fostered a community of inclusion, and our intention is to continue as a campus that welcomes people of all gender and sexual identities in the belief that all persons are of sacred worth.
