Director of Public Safety: The Director of Public Safety, who also serves as the Chief of Police, reports directly to the Vice President of Student Development and Services. The Public Safety Department is a dual-service agency consisting of sworn North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers, non-sworn Security Officers, and Administrative Specialists.
University Police Officers: The Police Lieutenant leads the Police Services Section and reports directly to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police. The Police Lieutenant supervises one (1) Police Sergeant, four (4) Campus Police Officers, and three (3) Reserve Campus Police Officers. University Police Officers are on duty at all times to serve the campus community. University Police Officers assigned to patrol duties wear distinctive grey and black uniforms.
Security Officers: The Security Lieutenant leads the Security Services Section and reports directly to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police. Security Offices do not have arrest powers, but do receive extensive training to perform many essential tasks that serve to keep the University a safer and more secure place. Security Officers are on duty at all times to serve the campus community. All Security Officers wear distinctive blue uniforms.
Safety and Support: The Safety and Support Lieutenant leads the Safety and Support Services Section and reports directly to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police. In addition, this Lieutenant oversees a number of essential programs including fire and life safety program compliance and training, crime prevention, driver safety training, pedestrian safety, emergency preparedness, access control, and administration of the vehicle registration and campus ID card programs.
Crime Prevention Officer: The Crime Prevention Officer is supervised by the Safety and Support Services Lieutenant. Our Crime Prevention Officer has completed extensive specialized training in crime prevention programs, services, and methods through state agencies and other accredited sources. Although crime prevention services are provided to the entire community, our Officer's primarily focuses on the on-campus residential communities.
Officer Manager: The Office Manager is supervised by the Safety and Support Services Lieutenant and is responsible for all business office functions including receptionist duties, clerical support, university ID cards, campus vehicle registration, telecommunication services, cash-handling, inter-office distribution, data and file management, and scheduling.
