Safety
The University's Emergency Alert Notification
System will be activated when a tornado warning is received.
- The Alert Now notification system will send a message regarding the
severe weather by landline, cell phone, and e-mail.
- The air siren will be activated continuously for 3 minutes to alert
persons outside buildings of the warning.
When you receive the Alert Now message and/or you hear the siren activate,
you should do the following:
Horner Administration Building
- If time permits move to an inner office, bathroom, hallway, etc.
that is away from windows and doors.
- Seek shelter under a desk or under other furniture and assume a curled
position using your arms to cover your head from possible falling debris.
- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
- Stay put until University or city authorities inform you that it
is safe to come out.
- Recommendations for shelter areas: Payroll/Accounts Payable/Restrooms
Trustees Classroom Building
- If time permits move to the lowest level of the building to an inner
office, bathroom, hallway, etc. that is away from windows and doors.
- Seek shelter under a desk or under other furniture and assume a curled
position using your arms to cover your head from possible falling debris.
- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
- Stay put until University or city authorities inform you that it
is safe to come out.
- Recommendations for shelter areas: Restroom foyers (downstairs),
Talley Leadership Center's inner-most office
Reeves Auditorium
- If time permits move to the lowest level of the building to an inner
office, bathroom, hallway, etc. that is away from windows and doors.
- Seek shelter under a desk or under other furniture and assume a curled
position using your arms to cover your head from possible falling debris.
- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
- Stay out of areas with free wide-spanning ceilings such as the Auditorium.
- Stay put until University or city authorities inform you that it
is safe to come out.
- Recommendations for shelter areas: Restrooms (downstairs),
Music Lab, Piano practice rooms
Berns Student Center
- If time permits move to the lowest level of the building to an inner
office, bathroom, hallway, etc. that is away from windows and doors.
- Seek shelter under a desk or under other furniture and assume a curled
position using your arms to cover your head from possible falling debris.
- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
- Stay out of areas with free wide-spanning ceilings.
- Stay put until University or city authorities inform you that it
is safe to come out.

of Career Services, Restrooms (downstairs)
Davis Memorial Library
- If time permits move to the lowest level of the building to an inner
office, bathroom, hallway, etc. that is away from windows and doors.
- Seek shelter under a desk or under other furniture and assume a curled
position using your arms to cover your head from possible falling debris.
- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
- Stay out of areas with free wide-spanning ceilings. (Old Section
of the Library)
- Stay put until University or city authorities inform you that it
is safe to come out.
- Recommendations for shelter areas: Basement Offices in older
section
Hendricks Science Complex
- If time permits move to the lowest level of the building to an inner
office, bathroom, hallway, etc. that is away from windows and doors.

- Assist any visitors/students not familiar with the building in moving
to a safer location.
