Welcome to the major in Political Science at Methodist University!

Staffed by award-winning, devoted, highly trained, and thoughtful faculty, the major in Political Science offers a rigorous course of study for students seeking exciting and rewarding careers in public administration, politics, law, government service, non-profit organizations, the diplomatic service, the military, or business.

The Political Program offers the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Students can choose to major in one of six degree programs:

Bachelor of Science Degree Programs

  • A flexible 39 semester hour major in Political Science
  • An area-specific 42 semester hour major with a concentration in International Relations 
  • A professionally focused 42 semester hour major with a concentration in Public Administration

Bachelor of Arts Degree Programs

  • A flexible 51 semester hour major in Political Science, which includes 12 semester hours of a foreign language
  • An area-specific 54 semester hour major with a concentration in International Relations, which includes 12 semester hours of a foreign language
  • A professionally focused 54 semester hour major with a concentration in Public Administration, which includes 12 semester hours of a foreign language

Students acquire indispensable skills in critical thinking, leadership, and ethical reasoning. Graduates of the Political Science program are given a true liberal arts foundation and professional skills that prepares them for the challenges of life.

News and Events:

The Outstanding Political Science Graduate for 2013-2014 was Lois Hammond. Lois will spend the next year working in the Washington, DC area and is planning to start graduate school in Fall 2015.

Dr. Frank Trapp, Director of Political Science was selected as the Methodist University Advisor of the Year for 2012-2013.

Dr. Andrew Ziegler, Chair of Government Studies was the recipient of the Alfred E. Cleveland Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2012-2013.
