Scholarship amounts vary for residential (on campus) and commuting (off campus). The total of all Major and/or Performance Scholarships combined can exceed the institutional cap by up to $2,000 per academic year. The institutional cap varies each academic year. For current year institution cap amounts, please contact the Office of Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid receives notification of all major and performance based scholarship recipients from the individual departments. The Office of Financial Aid must abide by MU policy regarding the institutional cap; therefore, scholarship amounts can vary per student and, in some instances, may be reduced or rescinded.

Cheerleading

Student must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend the required activities as established by the Cheerleading Coach. Contact the Cheerleading Coach for more information.

Debate

Students are required to actively pursue research, organize, practice, and compete in events as well as conduct on-campus public service events. Contact the Debate Coach for more information.

Education

Students who have declared their intent to seek education licensure, and who meet Presidential Scholarship requirements are eligible for the MU Education Scholarship. This scholarship is an academic scholarship and not considered part of the institutional cap. Contact the MU Education Department for more information.

English

The recipients must be English majors, must demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.4 and SAT/ACT score of 1100/24. The scholarship is awarded in conjunction with the Presidential Scholars program. The scholarship is renewable on the premise of remaining an English major for subsequent years. This scholarship is an academic scholarship and not considered part of the institutional cap. Leadership

The Leadership Scholarship is awarded to students who minor in Leadership Studies. Recipients are chosen based on GPA, active participation in the events sponsored by the Lura S. Tally Center for Leadership Development, and their leadership potential. Contact the Leadership Studies Program for more information.

Lionettes (Dance)

Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend the required activities as established by the Lionettes Coach. Contact the Lionettes Coach for more information.

Marching Band

The scholarship recipients are required to perform in a certain number of sporting events. Contact the Marching Band Director for more information.

Miss Fayetteville

Methodist University will offer a scholarship in the amount of $3,500 per academic year ($1,750 per semester) to the winner of the Miss Fayetteville Pageant. The scholarship is renewal and is considered part of the institutional cap. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

Monarch Pep Band

The scholarship recipients are required to perform in a certain number of sporting events. Contact the Music Department for more information.

Music (MU Chorale and MU Chamber Singers)

The MU Chorale and MU Chamber Singers Scholarships provide up to a $3,000 scholarship annually for members involved in the MU Chorale and MU Chamber Singers choral ensembles. The ensembles consist of vocalists selected through a voice placement/audition process and perform traditional/advanced choral literature from all periods. Students who have been active in choral ensembles in high school or college are encouraged to audition for this choir. Both ensembles represent the University at various functions locally, state-wide, and in the greater southeastern United States. For a student to maintain or renew this scholarship, the following criteria must be met: a minimum 2.0 GPA and must agree to perform in scheduled off campus programs each semester of membership. Music (Full Tuition)

The Music Full Tuition Scholarship provides full tuition annually. The recipients are selected through an audition process conducted by the Music Department and are required to represent the University at various functions locally, state-wide, and in the greater southeastern United States. For a student to maintain or renew this scholarship, the following criteria must be met: a minimum 2.0 GPA and must agree to perform in scheduled off campus programs each semester of membership. If eligible for need based Federal Aid (Pell Grant) or State Aid (North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship), these funds will be deducted from tuition first for commuting students and any remaining amount of undergraduate tuition charges will be covered by Methodist University. Need-based Federal Aid (Pell Grant) or State Aid (North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship) funds can be applied toward the cost of room and board for residential students. Resident Advisor (RA)

The RA Room Scholarship is available to rising sophomores or above who have lived on campus for one year and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.25. The Office of Student Life selects the recipients and notifies the Office of Financial Aid. The scholarship is not considered part of the institutional cap. The amount varies depending on which residence hall the student resides. The student will also earn $100 per month as an RA. Contact the Office of Student Affairs for more information.

ROTC

Students who are awarded full-tuition scholarships through Army ROTC or Air Force ROTC will receive the following awards from Methodist University. These awards will replace any previously awarded institutional scholarship/grant funds.

  • Commuting ROTC full-tuition scholarship recipients in the campus-based program will be awarded a $3,000 per year ROTC Academic Scholarship each year of their ROTC Scholarship.
  • ROTC full-tuition scholarship recipients who live in on-campus housing will be awarded an ROTC Room/Board Scholarship for each year of their ROTC Scholarship. This scholarship covers the cost of room and board charges each year. The ROTC Room/Board Scholarship will cover the standard double occupancy cost of any residence hall (if available, private room cost is an extra fee) as well as the full cost of any MU meal plan.
