We ask you first to read this entire page. The following information is to assit you while you are attending Methodist University.
An e-mail account (ending in @student.methodist.edu)
will be created for all Methodist University students. New students will receive their
e-mail and Blackboard account username and password in a letter sent to you by the
Admissins Office.
All students are responsible for checking their e-mail daily
for messages from the University. All official University
information (e.g., grades, academic notices, campus calendars,
attendance policy updates, registration and financial information,
etc.) will be sent electronically only. No University information
will be sent to any other e-mail address.
The above policy applies to all Methodist University graduate
students. However, for graduate students in the Master of Justice
Administration, The Professional MBA at Pinehurst, and the M.M.S.
in Physician Assistant Studies programs, e-mail addresses and passwords
will be issued to students by their program coordinators.
The following are items that you must have in order to connect to the network/Internet.
If you do not have these items, you may purchase them at the Methodist
University book store or at a store off campus.
- Network Interface Card (NIC):
Most laptops/computer now come standard with NICs, if not, you may have to install one. If you have to install a NIC, follow the directions supplied with the NIC. The NIC card allows you to connect your computer to the network/Internet.
- 50' Catagory V (CATV) Patch Cord:
The CAT V patch cord allows to you physically connect your laptop/desktop computer to the jack in your room. The 50' CAT V patch cord enable you to locate your computer anywhere in your residence hall room. If you purchase a shorter CAT V patch cord, you will have limited choices of where to locate your computer in your residence hall room.
- (Optional):
Most laptops/computer now come standard with wireless network cards built in. Wireless laptop users will need a wireless card/port (internal or external) that is "B" or "G" compatible
- Wireless access points:
Wirless access is currently only available in Margaret & Walter Clark Hall, Richard L. Player Golf and Tennis Learning Center classroom, Medical Science Bldg, Chris' House, Berns Student Center, Math & Computer Science Bldg, New Science building (Great Room, Lecture Hall, Computer Lab room 242, Environmental Simulation Center), and the first & second floors of the Davis Memorial Library, first floor common areas of Weaver Hall, Garber hall, Cumberland Hall, and the Cape Fear Commons Communitry Bldg. Future locations include the Trustee Classroom Bldg, and first floor common area of Weaver hall.

Existing students please read the Red Book. There have been some updates and changes to the Red Book.

infingements of music and videos downloaded from the Internet, it is very important for you to be aware of these laws.
The number of file sharing and peer-to-peer servers on the Internet are a great resource if done legally. If not, you could be held liable for what you download.
