Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Week

The Pi Kappa Alpha (PKA) fraternity at Methodist University will host several events on campus this week to raise awareness of domestic violence and support Fayetteville’s Child Advocacy Center. Several of the events are open to the public or the MU community.

MU Announces RN to BSN Program

Methodist University is proud to announce the newly proposed RN to BSN Program, which is designed to provide registered nurses with the opportunity to more easily attain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The hybrid program combines online coursework with convenient and flexible class times.

“Our program is designed to provide flexible pathways to degree completion for the working professional,” said Jake Terry, director of the RN to BSN Program. “Registered nurses who have completed an associate degree or diploma program are candidates for this degree.”

Methodist University Announces Homecoming and Family Weekend, Oct. 16-17

Methodist University will celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 16-17. The celebration will include athletic events, alumni reunions, awards ceremonies and events for families.

Friday, Oct. 16

The 18th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Friday night, sponsored by the Monarch Booster Club. Celebrate the accomplishments of past Monarch athletes, coaches and “Teams of Distinction.” The banquet will take place at Berns Student Center at 6:30 p.m.

A Homecoming Bonfire and Pep Rally will begin on campus, behind the Riddle Center, at 9 p.m.

Methodist University Friends of Music Presents Kaitlyn Lusk on Nov. 6

The Methodist University Friends of Music will present world-renowned vocalist Kaitlyn Lusk Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Hensdale Chapel. This event is free and open to the public.

Lusk is best known for her live and recorded performances in the Lord of the Rings Symphony and Gladiator Live for Hans Zimmer. She has been the featured vocal soloist in Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Symphony since 2004, and has performed the role with more than 50 of the world’s orchestras.

Methodist University to Host Pangea Oct. 21

Pangea returns to Methodist University Oct. 21 in Huff Concert Hall in the Reeves Fine Arts Building. There will be a reception in the Union-Zukowski Lobby at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Methodist University Announces New Director of Police and Public Safety

Methodist University has recently named Mark Brewington as the Director of Police and Public Safety, and Chief of Police.

Brewington served as deputy sheriff at the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office from 1986-1992, during which he completed North Carolina’s Basic Law Enforcement Training at Fayetteville Technical Community College. He next worked for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for 23 years, most recently as the assistant director of the Administrative Services Division.

Methodist University Announces Inaugural Reeves School of Business Symposium and Awards Dinner

The Reeves School of Business (RSB) at Methodist University announces the Inaugural Reeves School of Business Symposium and Awards Dinner, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Embassy Suites, 4760 Lake Valley Dr., Fayetteville. 

Methodist University Holds 25th Southern Writers Symposium

The 25th Southern Writers Symposium, “Celebrating Emerging Writers: A Weekend of Readings, Panels, and Workshops,” will take place on the campus of Methodist University Oct. 23-24. The event is open to the public, but registration is required. MU students, faculty, and staff can attend at no cost, or for $10 if they also attend the lunch on Saturday. The cost for all others to register is $50.
