The attire for Graduation will be Graduation robes worn with your mortar board (cap) parallel to the floor. The graduates shall wear black shoes to achieve a look of uniformity. Any clothing showing beneath the academic robes should be dark (preferably black). Mortar boards must be flat on the head. Males are asked to follow the President's lead in removing and replacing the mortar board (Cap). Sponsors are asked to wear clothing appropriate for a church service.
BEFORE GOING TO REHEARSAL MAKE SURE TO DO YOUR EXIT INTERVIEW WITH FINANCIAL AID. THE PROCESS SHOULD TAKE 15-25 MINUTES TO COMPLETE.
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE A PARENT/GUARDIAN WHO IS AN ORDAINED MINISTER. Methodist University desires to invite ordained ministers who are parents/Guardians of graduates to participate in the Baccalaureate service or the Graduation ceremony.
For the Baccalaureate Service on the day of graduation you will meet in the Berns Student Center (ONLY graduates with cap and gown) at 10:00 a.m. to line up. NO TICKET is required for the Baccalaureate Service which will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Huff Concert Hall, Reeves Fine Arts Building.
After the Baccalaureate service, you can meet in the cafeteria in the Berns Center for lunch with your family. LUNCH IS AVAILABLE AT THE COST OF $6.25 PER PERSON. Please pay at the door.
GET IN LINE WITH YOUR SPONSOR AT 1:00 P.M. IN THE REEVES FINE ARTS BUILDING.
Graduation is at 2:00 p.m. in The March F. Riddle Center. You will line up with your sponsor on your left side. You will walk double file into the Riddle Center following a Marshal in a green gown. Once you approach your row of seating your sponsor will go into the row of seating behind you.
The head marshal (Dr. Folsom) will let you know when it is time for your row to approach the stage to receive your diploma. Your sponsor will follow you on stage and hood you as you receive your diploma.
After the ceremony is completed, you will leave the Riddle Center row by row, be escorted to the door, and proceed through an Honor Cordon (made up of Faculty & Staff members). Any presentations of gifts or flowers must be made after graduates proceed through the Honor cordon. At the end of the cordon, please continue walking a good distance so you won't cause a bottle-neck in the procession. Sponsors and audience must remain at their seats while the graduates exit the building.
