Program
One of the primary concerns of the university, as well as one of its
principle opportunities for service, is in the field of teacher education.
The university is committed to meeting the need for well-trained and dedicated
teachers. It recognizes teacher education as an institution-wide responsibility.
The unifying theme for all of the education programs is the development
of professional educators as facilitative teachers who understand and
value the process of learning.
Mission
The mission of the Methodist University Teacher Education Program is to
produce graduates who will demonstrate content knowledge, pedagogical
skills, and exhibit dispositions of the Facilitative Teacher.
Goals
The goals of the Teacher Education Program are:
- Graduates of the MU Teacher Education Program will demonstrate content
knowledge.
- Graduates of the MU Teacher Education Program will have the appropriate
pedagogical skills.
- Graduates of the MU Teacher Education Program will exhibit the dispositions
of the Facilitative Teacher.
- Graduates of the MU Teacher Education Program will demonstrate leadership
skills in the classroom, in the school, and within the teaching profession.
- Graduates of the MU Teacher Education Program will establish a respectful
environment for a diverse population of students.
Accreditation: The Teacher Education
Program, accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher
Education (NCATE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
(NCDPI), provides courses of study for the following teaching licenses:

Reciprocity: The North Carolina teaching
license is currently honored in twenty-nine states through interstate
reciprocity agreements and other states via NASDTEC (National Association
of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification).

NCATE Disclosure
The Methodist University Teacher Education Program utilizes a highly comprehensive
assessment system to ensure the performance of its Teacher Candidates.
Title II of the Higher
Education Opportunity Act mandates
that the U.S. Department of Education collect data on state assessments
and standards for teacher licensure and certification, as well as performance
data pertaining to teacher preparation programs. Methodist University's
