New Student Advising

A member of the Center for Student Success Registration Team will serve as a temporary academic advisor and will assist you with your course selection and registration for your first semester.  As a new student, be sure to download our publication Becoming a Monarch: A Guide for New Students.

To begin the registration process, look for a message from your temporary academic advisor via your MU e-mail account. Your temporary academic advisor will develop your class schedule and register you for classes, answer questions you may have about the University, and direct you to additional information if necessary.

Based on the information you provided the Admissions Office concerning your major, the advisor will recommend and register you in classes for the spring 2015 semester. You will be able to view your course schedule as it develops via the Registration tab on the myMU portal and communicate with your advisor via the e-mail link in the Advisor Information portlet on the Advising tab. If you have not yet decided upon a major, the advisor will assist you in exploring your interests and potential choices for a major.

If you are transferring academic credit to Methodist University, the advisor will have access to your evaluated transcript after it is processed by the Registrar's Office.

  • The University must receive all of your official transcripts before building your schedule.
  • Be sure that Methodist University receives any Dual Enrollment, AP Test Scores, and/or CLEP credit immediately.
  • The temporary academic advisor cannot finalize your schedule without complete information.

This advisor will be available to assist you until the last day to adjust your schedule. You will transition to your Major academic advisor at the end of the first week of classes when you attend your Advisor Meeting for New Students. Your Major advisor will be a member of the department of your requested major. If you have not selected a major, you will continue to work with an exploratory advisor until you are ready to declare a major.

We are looking forward to working with you at Methodist University!
