The purpose of the Methodist University Chamber Orchestra is to enable people to work together as part of a performance ensemble for people interested in playing violin, viola, cello, and bass. It will work to create opportunities for community outreach, and to primarily benefit the string/instrumental education of student members by presenting quality string literature.

Let’s Work Together

The community efforts of this group include, but are not limited to, performances at local high schools, high schools throughout North Carolina, community programs, and area churches. Additionally, the organization exists to increase the awareness of arts advocacy, specifically, in music.

Earn Credit for School

The Methodist University Chamber Orchestra is a one credit hour ensemble (MUS 3900-3910 Chamber Music) that is open to any MU student with a love for music and prior experience with the violin, viola, or cello. The Orchestra performs music from many different genres and time periods. It is offered every fall and spring semester on Thursdays. Participating in the orchestra will fulfill the fine arts requirement when enrolled for minimum of three semesters.

Receive an Annual Scholarship

The orchestra can be seen performing at various functions that take place on the Methodist University campus, such as Chapel Services and combined concerts with the Methodist choirs. An annual scholarship of up to $500 will be offered to students who participate in the ensemble.
